When we first started talking about marriage, Karen said that she had always wanted to be married in the church where she grew up. The Church of the Holy Comforter is an Episcopal church in Burlington, NC. "Holy Comforter" is another name for the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost -- one of the members of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) (it is not some bizarre religious cult that prays to a ripped and torn bedspread. Just so you know.). One of the symbols of the Holy Spirit is the white dove which is depicted at the top of the stained glass window over the altar.
It's a lovely stone and stained glass chapel. It was built about 100 years ago. The stained glass windows are typical of the Victorian style popular at that time. The original church building is still standing (St. Athanasius) in the grove behind the church and is used for smaller services and by other small congregations in town.
While we know not everyone of our guests are Christians or attend regular worship services, we still have to let the Baptists in. (Relax people, that was a joke. You can close your email client now.) Believe me when I say that we will be thrilled to have you attend.
